Johnson City is known as the hometown of Lyndon B. Johnson, so you’ll want to explore the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park to learn more about his life and local history, with various sites from his boyhood home to the LBJ Ranch. Discover a different kind of history at the Texas Vintage Motorcycle Museum, featuring motorcycles from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Another favorite museum is the Science Mill, a science museum featuring more than 50 interactive exhibits and a 3D theater. For a closer look at animal science, Exotic Resort Zoo offers guided safaris, plus an outdoor pool and playground.
Education and nature experiences are plentiful here, but the real star of this town is its large variety of wineries and distilleries. The 290 Texas Wine Trail starts here in Johnson City, and you will find a variety of wineries to sample, including 290 Wine Castle, Farmhouse Vineyards, and Pebble Rock Cellars. If spirits are your preference, Moonshine Ridge is a fun experience. Reck ‘Em Right Brewing Company and Pecan Street Brewing are two of many breweries if a cold beer is your drink of choice.
